In constructing and fitting out its corporate headquarters in Bourke Street Melbourne, Australia Post sought to develop internal environmental graphics that not only complemented the interior fit-out of each level, but also served as a visual reference to help differentiate and define each floor of the building.
Working closely with interior designers Geyer, Visua designed and directed the creation of 17 unique, nine metre long artworks using previous philatelic stamp series as inspiration. Not without its challenges, it was discovered that the designated walls were not load bearing and could not be used for the artwork. Undeterred, Visua solved this by designing a floor to ceiling false wall supported at the base.
The completed artworks draw the viewer into the space by starting at the lift entry lobby and continuing around the corner, into the open plan foyer. The use of large bold graphics juxtaposed against fine detailing enabled the artworks to engage viewers from a distance as well as close up.
